If today’s House Finance and Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture and Development was an indication of the entire budget project, don’t expect to see any decrease in spending.

The Board of Dietetics, the Ohio Respiratory Care Board and the Ohio Veterinary Licensing Board all testified that they should receive more state funding because they “protect Ohioans.” Some have a different view.

The Liquor Control Commission also testified that it needs more money to successfully adjudicate cases dealing with liquor violations. Why can’t the Ohio Division of Liquor Control perform this duty?

Last but not least, the Ohio Air Quality Development Authority bragged about its enormous ability to give Ohio corporations government handouts. The OAQDA director stated it “helps businesses meet new regulations.” EOTS has a better idea; cut down on the burdensome regulations!

Overall, it was business as usual at the Statehouse: professional bureaucrats rationalizing the need for more of your tax dollars.
