Porker of the WeekEach Friday, Eye on the Statehouse will announce its “Porker of the Week.” It’s our way of calling attention to a particularly big spender.

This week’s porker is the Ohio Board of Regents.

As reported earlier in the week, the Regents spent over $113,386.83, during a two-year period, at some of central Ohio’s finest restaurants, including Hanke’s Cuisine, Lindey’s Restaurant and the Granville Inn.

To make matters worse, they were unapologetic about their irresponsible excess. In response to questioning, spokesman Jamie Abel said, “The staff here looks at it as potentially people not understanding the nature of the work we do here.” He then added, “You just can’t have those kinds of discussions in the middle of Chuck E. Cheese’s.

But we do understand. Eating at a fine dining establishment is nicer than a box lunch. However, it’s outrageous that the taxpayers were stuck with the bill.

We hope the Regents have bought themselves an extensive legislative review of their other spending practices.
